Some thoughts on spam on Farcaster and how we tackle it. 

First question - What is spam?  

The naive answer is "automated activity" but this isn't right. Over 75% of spam we find comes from real humans who have phones, wallets and x accounts. 

The best definition is "inauthentic activity". It's that feeling you get when you realize that someone who is following, liking or replying to is doing it to benefit themselves and not because they're interested in you.

Yesterday I saw a lot of new friends getting the $5 reward for being a top /warpcast caster. 

Dan told me it was because the spam model improvement. That's mean that these people were labelled as spam or it's not related?

Excellent question! It was great to see new faces getting rewards but the influx of new people was startling. Clearly something changed.

There were a lot of people in the "unknown" category - model didn't know if they were spammy or not spammy. 

Their replies weren't hidden in show more, but we didn't give them boosts or usdc rewards. 

The new model is much more confident and can move people into spammy vs not spammy.
