These scams are also rife in the art world and ultimately exploit the artist. 1. Receive an invite or find an open call 2. They tell you it's free to apply 3. You automatically get accepted 4. The acceptance feels great and then you see the extortionate cost to display These places are preying on new artists to make money for their show. Legitimate galleries and shows will never apply these tactics. Don't fall for the trap

Honestly I get irate at the opportunity boards for allowing these scammers through the door and lost their "competitions". Any legit organisation will have received the funds to put together an open call, competition etc with the rare exception of things like Beautiful Bizarre or similar high end establishments, then the fee is justified for the name attached to it and the vast prize money on offer (BB is $75,000)
