two things can be true: 1. many farcaster users feel as though a 'FC Cabal' is favored at the client level, and enjoy permanent, outsized benefits from being active, early 2. its totally possible to join Farcaster and grow an account from 0. I joined on Feb. 5th and my account is in the top 300 users by engagement according to most dashboards I've checked. You have to post & reply consistently, and it really helps to have something to say.

We should celebrate and study the success stories for sure. We should also ask whether the frequency of success is optimal or acceptable or reflective of group values. Unpopular opinion: from Feb to July, fewer than 5 accounts have been able to achieve Proxy Studio's level of growth. The market had priced in at least 500 accounts being able to grow to >5K followers in 5 months

yeah, I agree. which is why I think we should take seriously number 1 I didn't have the feeling it was impossible to grow when I started here, it felt hard but doable. what can we do to bring that back?

do you have data on the "fewer than 5 accounts" bit? or just your feeling would love to see it

I can name a ton of accounts in my cohort with similar growth.

This is a useful observation to share, and express publicly. Maybe unfair of me to ask, so totally optional to answer. Does anyone else care to throw out rough numbers, before we all do some fun data investigation? I present three claims, before looking at the data: 1. "Proxy Studio grew from 0 to top 300 users by engagement, between Feb 5, 2024 and July 5th, 2024." 2. "fewer than 5 accounts grew from [0] to [Proxy's current follower count, which is 16.3~16.5k] over that same time period" 3. "The market expected 500 accounts to grow to >5k followers over that time period." Suggesting that the number that actually did is a disappointing number

Are doing this just by FIDs and OpenRank? So like FID over xxxx (approximate date of joining) and OpenRank under 500? Following rank or Engagement Rank? Engagement is probably easier because you’d be able to see this really quickly with the degen dashboard.

my initial questions (before actually trying): - FID vs current number of followers - FID vs OpenRank Engagement - FID vs date of first cast (maybe distinguish root-level and replies?) - FID vs quantity of casts between 1 Jan 2024 and now (again, maybe separate root-level and replies)

FIDs are just the date you joined. It’s pretty meaningless. Warpcast judges you based on who follows you, as do most of the algorithms. When it was a small community, a lot of the same people followed each other so a lot of people associate a low FID with a strong account, but it’s not the FID itself, it’s who follows it. You see a whole cohort of people who have early FIDs but haven’t been active for a while or came back and are now super active. It’s just one way to slice the data. Most followers are bots or inactive accounts. There are not a ton of active people here. I’d guess 10k on a good day.
