What makes FarCon So Special? (🧵) Farcasters are special. Y’all are my kind of nerds. We are the innovator class. We are the trailblazers who are super open minded and eager to try all of the new things. We are driven and motivated and for a handful of days, many of us converged into one place and got to hang out as humans. We worked, we played, we ranted, we connected, we broke bread, we gave hugs, and most importantly we put faces to the pfps and realized that every person we met was an awesome human doing cool things. We went from magic internet friends to real friends. We had incredible moments, made connections, and strengthened our bonds in a way we just can’t do over text. The URL to IRL pipeline is key and must be protected at all costs. The Summit was outstanding but the side events, shared Ubers /subway rides, coffees and dinners were the stars of the week.

Talks, presentations, and demos are wonderful. I enjoyed all of them immensely, but the face time with Farcasters is what I came for and will be the memories that stick with me. Builders Day and Summit were the core of the week and anchored us all here. The community side events built on top of them and were organized and executed by Farcasters. You can just organize events and host things. You don’t need permission, you can just do it. And people did. From poker and beer pong to yoga and mini app demos days, there was something for everyone on the network and chances to take part regardless of your attendance at the official events. And this is what makes FarCon so magical.

People lean in. They took the initiative to build the schedule they wanted to see and self organize. Many other crypto events do this as well. They have packed schedules full of cool events, but it just doesn’t feel the same. As much as we want to believe we have soooo much in common with people who own the same coins or NFTs, we’ve learned the hard way over the last 4 years that those things alone do not make deep connections. But Farcaster connects us all in a unique way that’s hard to describe to people who haven’t experienced our cozy corners. Most of us don’t own the same NFTs or coins. That’s not why we joined nor why we stay. The ties that bind us go deeper. We stay because we’ve made friends. We log in daily because our friends are here. We believe in the future of decentralized social and want to help shape it with our words and actions. We put in the work and when so many of us are in the same rooms, it shows.

I didn’t meet spectators. I met doers. I met developers building products, artists building bodies of work, folks building their onchain collections, thought leaders building community. What they all had in common was that they were actively building in their own way. No one was just consuming. No one was just casting. Everyone was making something and it was unreal to meet people constantly who were doing such interesting and creative things. You might look at FarCon from the outside and think of it as a static moment, but for those who experienced it, it was the kickoff for the next chapter. New cabals are forming. New friendships are being made. Old connections are deepening and new friendships are blooming. And you can’t stop that momentum, but you can use it as inspiration. I challenge everyone to figure out a way to meet another active Farcaster IRL and encourage you to do everything you can to make it happen ASAP. I
