Seeing so much hate for this diagram that would have been accepted as common wisdom 5 years ago makes me sad, and makes me somewhat more scared for the future of the world.

I hope we can snap out of this mode of thinking soon.

In the past 5 years, many westerners were pushed out of comfortable life situations where they could afford to signal right.

Those still comfortable have increased the gap and are even less likely to see the problem.

At face value it's immigration related. On a deeper level it's a wealth inequality problem.
