The difference is that you don’t know your creations suck when you have bad taste

I think he’s talking about people who stick around through the struggle, not the dilettantes

But I agree that good taste is uncommon and most people just like what is trendy

his thesis though is: 'all of us who get into creative work, we do it because we have good taste' - i think is just an attempt to flatter the reader. we know that's not true.
