What subscription app do you get the most value from on a $/day basis?

Obsidian. You can use it for free but I like to pay for their sync just to support the devs. All your notes in plain markdown on your device, with a massive ecosystem of plugin developers. It’s awesome.

I use Roam. Is there a compelling reason to switch?

disclaimer: I make Obsidian Obsidian is very fast. It runs locally, so it works offline. All your data is yours, sync is E2E encrypted. No lock in. Mobile app equally fast and powerful. There is a great API and a large ecosystem of plugins that help you add any functionality you can think of.

Can I easily switch from Roam? The mobile app is the biggest factor for me. Roam’s mobile experience is severely lacking.

Yes there is a built-in plugin called Format Converter that will help convert files from Roam to Obsidian See https://nesslabs.com/roam-to-obsidian Obsidian is a bit more prose oriented than Roam. You may find the Obsidian Outliner plugin useful if you like to work with bullets

I'm a bit nervous about using external plugins due to the sensitive data I keep in Roam. I've just downloaded Obsidian and plan to run it side-by-side for a bit to see if I like it enough to make the switch. I may reach out with questions if that's ok :)

I get it! The Obisidan community is very privacy focused. Based on your comment I'm surprised you trust having your data on the Roam servers. FWIW Outliner and most plugins are 100% open source so you can see inspect the code, e.g. https://github.com/vslinko/obsidian-outliner
