Within two days of Brazil's X ban, Bluesky gained 500,000 users, with many also joining Mastodon and Threads. People often migrate to these (relatively) decentralized platforms to escape X, but this time, it wasn’t X pushing them away, they couldn’t use it. Decentralized social media is always open to everyone. https://www.theverge.com/2024/8/30/24232561/brazil-x-ban-sending-people-bluesky

Why would this have been a bad thing for Farcaster to win here? More users, more press, more growth that sets a new baseline for DAUs even if some churn Feels like a missed opportunity

It was indeed a great opportunity, and it could have even been used for promotion. However, that didn’t happen. Farcaster is still not widely known in the mainstream. Moreover, for many people, every step from hearing about it, signing up, using it, staying on, to becoming active presents a challenge.
