swimming in bioluminescent ocean was one of the most surreal and beautiful experiences I've ever had with a new moon, the only light source was emanating from the stars above swiping your hands and feet around in the water ignites hundreds of tiny blue shimmers of light. you can paint with light while weightlessly floating it would make the most hardened adult revert back to child like wonder in seconds

i've experienced it twice now, in bocas del toro panama and on the pacific coast of panama i think there are even better places to go see it to like the maldives

must have been wild to swim in. I went to Mosquito Bay on Vieques (off Puerto Rico) in 2023, during a new moon and it was insane. I think itโ€™s the brightest in the world. You kayak through glowing waters at night and can see it light up on each paddle stroke. def recommend (hard to capture on camera)
