i think ppl simultaneously are ok w vice at a personal level but believe that systemically normalizing vices is bad for society

its kinda where i'm at, i do think widespread proliferation of gambling is objectively bleak at societal level - but its fun and sometimes profitable so i dont mind doing it myself

that being said i think we are both aligned that the train has left the station. so i think its constructive to figure out how to navigate that somehow

is buying a 150 P/E ratio stock in tradfi not “gambling”?

is leaving a stable job to start your own business not “gambling” your time?

I think when you start thinking of all decisions in the context of risk and reward it becomes easier to rationalize that most people are already gambling in their daily lives and they just don’t realize it.

i define gambling as "speculation without edge". i do not think widespread speculation without edge is good for society, by definition it is -EV/money losing for most participants. 

but my point is not to make a claim about good or bad anyways because i think it's inevitable at this point, so it is more interesting to think about second order effects and what's next
