It's a mindfuck how folks invented calculus, topology, linear algebra, analytic geometry, probabilities, etc. in the fucking 1600s! This shit is still HARD 400 years later, when it's spoon-fed 12 years in school, with 3blue1brown explainers and AI tutors. The average person today can easily grasp 400yo tech. The printing press, windmill, cannon, plow, etc. are trivial contraptions by modern standards; even a smol brain knows how they work. But math invented 400 years ago? Utterly incomprehensible alien speak, a mile above the average person's head.

I had a similar “mindfuck” when I first read Meditations few years ago, reading how an emperor was thinking about life, people and everyday small problems is fascinating.
