I tend to use the concept of currency exchanges when traveling to a new country for reference. 

Forget it when discussing more abstract concepts

You have to strip down all the jargon and stick to the core concepts. You can do it, but not with the terminology we used all the time.
The other part is that most people aren’t familiar with simple financial concepts, which says a lot about society.

I can’t even successfully explain RAI to my crypto friends…
