We already knew that the ultra-processing of foods (UPF) increases the incidence of cardiovascular disease and mortality. But that is apparently also true of the ultra-processing of plant-based foods: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanepe/article/PIIS2666-7762(24)00115-7/fulltext

i had always just assumed ultra processed foods included all the fake plant based stuff anyway

I guess there is this perception that plant-based == healthier. In reality, you can have either animal-based UPF or plant-based UPF, and that they are both unhealthy — the benefits of a plant-based diet get lost once the industrial processing comes into play
