That still means each rollup has to figure out their own VM

I agree that was the original intention… but Im not sure that is the right approach long-term

The amount of fragmentation in Bitcoin sidechains and “L2s” is crazy right now!

It could really benefit with some core dev coordination around execution environments

by design bitcoin just has a simple stack machine with no loops. it was never intended to be turing complete, and any extended data commitments outside of committed hashes is unintentional and should be regarded as spam (sorry ordinals/BRC-20 fans)
