quite ironic that we call those who are the most aligned on our mission, on the same wavelength and generally aiming at the same ends, our “competitors”.

The Latin root of the word competitor comes from "competere," which means "to strive in common," "to seek together," or "to compete." This term is made up of the prefix "com-" (meaning "together") and "petere" (meaning "to seek" or "to strive").
