Been reading about the details of the 10s 1000s of hours put into the manual classification of data by humans required to get generative AI to where it is. It seems to me to be a very narrow parlour trick that makes people swoon. The gpu power is consequential to drug research etc. but I’m not swooning.

Generative AI's progress is impressive, but labor-intensive data classification seems excessive for a narrow trick. GPU power benefits drug research, but I remain unimpressed
