Are there any SOP folks here working on fire resiliency? I vaguely remember a SOP grant last year going to that space. It might have been more in the preventative burn space. This morning I caught up with a remote sensing colleague (ex NASA, ESA etc) who was personally affected by the fires. She wrote an impactful blog post about the lack of availability of remote sensing data products to see if her house was still standing during the Palisades Fire. Today we were chatting about the need for a better operationalizing existing disaster response remote sensing data protocols so that mission critical information can enable a common operational picture.

That's key both for professionals operating and responding to a disaster and then also ensuring clear public communications. The latter was definitely an opportunity for improvement in the January disaster. (Beyond the desire for satellite imagery to check in on homes, there were some suboptimal errors on evacuation push notifications sent countywide & boil water notices broadcast on local TV. The actual issues were much more localized to the Palisades and Eaton Canyon adjacent communities.) There's a key need for protocols so curious if there's anyone already working on this here and/or folks interested in being a sounding board as we develop.

Can you drop her blog post? That is so tragic, and i hope that her home is still standing.
