This is a complicated topic: should protocols also build clients? There is no right answer but my guess would be that the best way to gather the best community of builders is to only do the protocol, and maybe build a demo client.

I think the answer is yes. Uniswap was successful because of a great application / UI. But other apps should be able to permissionlessly thrive as well, which is what farcaster team is dedicating the most resources to

About Uniswap: to me this is very different. You don't need more than one client for Uniswap and most of the activity can be done from protocol to protocol, which does not really make sense in web3 social. Here the diversity of clients and their ability to innovate seem to be the key success factor.

Perhaps we have different time horizons in mind. For me, the protocol team should still be building a great client because it's so early and there's no clear great client right now. But long term, I agree with you. If a diff. client took off, I would guess that Merkle would slow the work on Warpcast and be happy.
