Rampant inflation has made life hard for everyday people. Plus, almost half of the population have zero trust in media or public institutions. So, issues with both performance and narrative make it hard for incumbents to retain power. A few years ago I was heartened by swings toward the ‘left’ in many Western nations. Now I realise it’s all destined to be cyclical, unless there is some sort of significant shock to the system.

Absolutely. A Chinese lab conducting research partly funded by the US. Shutting down investigations and reporting is one of the few issues that both Governments see eye to eye on.

But when my mum returns there, all she feels is fear and worry - little things (like sirens, or soldiers) evoke the trauma of living in (and eventually fleeing) a war torn country as a child, which she clearly still carries with her to this day. It’s not fair, that I can enjoy the country of her birth but she can’t. But that’s life I guess.

I’m sorry to hear this. I do feel like fireworks (especially spontaneous ones in public places) are irresponsible and inconsiderate to those who have experienced warfare. It reminds me of how, when I travel in the country of my mother’s heritage, I get to experience the joy of travel and self-discovery.

Can’t you say this about so many artists / organisations who make it big? Brewdog are a UK craft beer label who gained a cult following with their ‘punk’ attitude. Now they’re a multi billion dollar corporate entity that sues licensed venues for using the word ‘punk’ in their branding… not very punk.

In a future world of AGI/ASI perhaps your iris (and other proof of humanity) become important in ways we can’t yet comprehend. I also fear that Sam Altman knows something (many things) we don’t, so I’m reluctant to hand him an iris scan (unless the price is right… such is life).

I have enjoyed using Warpcast, more than I expected. Because there are so few users (relative to x, reddit etc) it feels a lot more personal. And because there’s less relevant content, I find it quite relaxing to use (it’s boring, but I like it that way? Feels better for my brain than other social media).
