a 50yo general contractor named scott in nebraska asked me just now: "what is that chinese ai model everyone is talking about? is it good? can I use it instead of chatgpt? is it safe?" the us v china rhetoric helped fuel the adoption... and americans seem to know the chinese cook cheap
