But a reserve of anything else is just funneling the US treasury into private pockets.

That definitely is their goal, plutocracy functioning as intended.
If they buy BTC it does the same, indirect subsidy to Saylor and whoever else has a lot already. I think they just have to buy slowly over time and probably largely in the bear market. Eth seems smart as a strategic reserve asset though.
