If you're looking for something clever and entertaining, you should definitely pick up any Sir Terence David John Pratchett book in the Discworld series.  Discworld is a series of humorous books in the fantasy genre. If you're not familiar with this author, start at the beginning, with "The Color of Magic". Or, for example, “Guards! Guards!” as happened to me.  Beware, these books are addictive. After reading the first one, I didn't rest until I had read all the books in the series, and if I want to cheer myself up, I will without a doubt grab this particular author off the shelf.
