feels like I haven't mentioned this, but "Gray Markets: Prevention, Detection and Litigation" is illuminating. markets are egregores, not geographical regions. so long as firms exist, the market exists with them. the weird thing is, regardless of how the morality makes these into seedy, irrational voids, they widely overlap on ruleset. the market is the market, if the widely-consumed product is relatively subpar quality, it's only going to make sense in desolate places where the market cannot survive & thrive.
