No strong opinions on the "more equity than they deserve" part (I'm a strong believer in "you get what you negotiate, not what you deserve" school of thought), but there is definitely a huge founder-worship industrial complex that highly distorts the narratives of what is happening. This has only gotten more distortionary as SV's political ambitions have slowly captured its technological ambitions. Founder mythologizing is fun and arguably even a positive distortion when your horizons are expanding and you need mythologies of hidden treasures to motivate people. But it becomes net negative once the game state has switched to zero-sum (PE, mercantilism) or even negative sum (wartime politics).
