European mind cannot comprehend this.

Americans treat their politics like basketball games - with stars singing, crowds shouting, and everyone zealously supporting their side.

It looks much more entertaining than our cold European politics, but I guess this sports fan attitude might play a role in polarizing society.

it’s much more emotional and tribal compared to what I remember when I lived in the US, especially pre-Obama. It used to be normal to openly discuss who you were voting for and why - with those voting against you.

ouch. although it’s not just them - politically mixed marriages fell something like 10% in 4 years in 2020, I believe it’s now under 15% in the US. 

it’s obvious unity/alignment is gone in the US when it runs as deep as the family (as marriages were historically the tool for political alignment)

my friend from LA has been dating a guy for some time. after a few dates she told him that she voted for Trump, and explained why. they started a heated argument and after it ended, he never answered her calls again.
