European mind cannot comprehend this. Americans treat their politics like basketball games - with stars singing, crowds shouting, and everyone zealously supporting their side. It looks much more entertaining than our cold European politics, but I guess this sports fan attitude might play a role in polarizing society.

it’s much more emotional and tribal compared to what I remember when I lived in the US, especially pre-Obama. It used to be normal to openly discuss who you were voting for and why - with those voting against you. emotions cloud judgement and tribalism causes divide

+1 my friend from LA has been dating a guy for some time. after a few dates she told him that she voted for Trump, and explained why. they started a heated argument and after it ended, he never answered her calls again. like wtf
