I have a question. A joke is a joke ofc, but isn't it possible for sanctioned countries to "technically" parallel import stuff via Antarctica to the US, maybe not today but some day in the future, so perhaps Trump administration knows something and foreseeing the possible scenarios? I guess they've set up tariffs for Vietnam (49%) and Mexico (25% for starters) for the same reason, to prevent Chineese exporters to reach America thru third-party countries, no? I know technically no government owns Antarctica, but who knows, it's actually a single word to add to the list of countries with tariffs, and as a side effect it makes an awesome free marketing campaign for the tariff thing overall. The media and meme masters basically spread the word so that literally everyone in the world heard about US tariffs. Does it make sense?

No the Heard & McDonald Islands (which this refers to) are uninhabited. These are tariffs on imports to the US. There are literally no imports from there because there are no people β€” just penguins.

A-ha. So it's Australian external territory, therefore they must have some regulation over it even tho it's only inhabited by penguins. Which makes it technically possible to ship goods to USA using those islands as a workaround, but now if any country attempts to do it, there's a handy tariff. By the way, isn't it hypocrite that everyone's talking about Trump being dumb for installing tariffs on uninhabited territory, but no one mentioned that despite the lack of population, the islands ALREADY have been assigned the country code HM in ISO 3166-1 (ISO 3166-2:HM), AND the Internet top-level domain .hm. Also for penguins?
