Many of you know I’m a Survivor super fan - so I’m watching Beast Games and it’s pretty good but in 2 episodes of Beast Games I have seen more people crying than in 47 seasons (20+years) of Survivor. It’s kinda surprising — and concerning— how emotionally rekt these competitors are getting. 

(And yes, I’m also sourcing future /castout ideas)

I’ve been thinking about this and I’m not sure. And yes emotionally fragile or just overly emotional. My first thought was age — maybe generational but nope. There’s a similar demographic for both shows and a variety of ages. 

So my next thought was editing — this could be playing a role. But I don’t think that’s totally it. 

What I really think it is — Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. On Survivor you’re making a shelter, hunting & gathering for food, going to a well for water, building a fire, bathing in the ocean. On Beast Games, they’re in basically a hotel, being fed etc so there’s more time to tap into emotion. You see emotion on Survivor for sure but just not so extreme. And pervasive. 

They also seem to be getting much more attached, much more quickly. Someone with an organizational behavior background would do well to study this & compare.

wait what’s your theory for why they’re so emotionally fragile (?) idk if that’s the right word

the drama makes for good entertainment but resiliency is a great skill to have in survivor-like games so I’m surprised

Just watched a behind-the-scenes video of Beast Games and the logistics are absolutely mind-blowing!

From coordinating hundreds of cameras to ensuring food and accommodation for thousands of participants across different hotels, the amount of planning and effort that goes into these challenges is just incredible!
