You don’t want to wear a helmet when the primary concern is a concussion. I would never wear a helmet Snowboarding. I would wear a helmet mountain biking.

1. At best helmets don’t prevent concussions and at worst the data says they potential increase concussions though it’s statistically insignificant 
2. False confidence is created with a helmet that leads you to believe you’re more safe than you are
3. It takes practice to learn to not hit your head and be aware of it during a fall

The reasons outlined below I think it’s more important to treat them as something you go to only when relevant and after you learn when and why they’re useful. If you go to them by default then you’re just shifting one type of injury for another

Well, here is my relevant data:
1) I live in Hawai'i and never wear sunscreen (just avoid peak sun).
2) I never wear a helmet biking.
3.) The first time I went mountain biking (2011, Colorado), I decided to wear a helmet. Ended up flipping over the handlebars and landing on my head.
