imo compute is the most effective thing, if gcp wants to shut a company down, they can

blockchains are nice for sending/receiving tokens, it can’t run a serious service. the biggest ones are names and swapping token assets, crypto internet needs to run 70B llama

Compute makes sense, why does that need to be at L1? Can't the data and the compute be at different layers or is there an advantage created by putting them at the same level? I'm asking this way because I've yet to see a scalable instance where the data layer can move at the pace of compute while preserving security

That can all be true but I still don't see how or why that makes a difference for layer x,y, or z? Yes I need to compute and yes I would rather do that on an open system, also why I'm psyched on Quil, and also why I spent 2012-2018 working on distributed compute, so I'm totally aligned with you on that concept.

eth for the most part provides a slow state database that you can read/write from using the same services we were using before. growing a larger database than any private company is the only selling point i see atm. ideology is cute and all but it’s not changing the world today tmrw, yday, or on its own.

L1 is generic, L2 specific. I'm understanding your comment to say that a generic and broadly needed type of compute is missing at L1 therefore more room for L1. It's not under ETH, either next to it or displacing it. If it's making use of ETH and then extending it then it's more L2. At least that's how I understand Ls
