Catholic Church is weird as fuck, how has nobody said this? 

I’ve been to Mormon church, they’re not as weird as the Catholics. It’s 2023, I’m cool with there being more to this life than meets the eye, or not if you prefer, but the religious protocols are bizarre given what they’re supposed to mean.

The Catholics seem uniquely good at it. Old Testament gave far more reasons for fear than the New Testament, maybe Catholics are old book heavy on their focus

The whole “fearing god” thing is what gets me. Probably not unique to Catholics.

Oh I’m very familiar with the Mormons and seen the depths, have you been to a catholic mass though? Still goes further than the Mormons though it’s clear the Mormons borrowed from them during their setup phase

Raised Mormon here and I promise Mormons are weirder.  They just are really good at making the weirdest parts secret and if the secrets are shared members punished by being separated from your family for eternity.

Nothing about it is normal or comfortable to me. I went to a non denominational church only until I was 9/10 and I have an innate dislike for rules for the sake of rules. Stand up, sit down, stand up, … now pray, repetitive words, rituals with items imbued with divine meaning etc

I was raised Roman Catholic (in Rome lol) and I always found it more quaint than weird - harmless overall

what specifically do you find weird? Probably location has something to do with it too

Rituals, things being done to demonstrate spiritual cleanliness, mnemonic devices, etc

I just never knew how much more elaborate it all was vs some non denominational church on the west coast for example. I was surprised LDS is more low key as I previously thought they were a bit overboard with their mnemonics

It’s bizarreness is the best thing about it.

Time travel would be insanely trippy, and the Catholic Church is one of the closest approximations to that.
