I rarely ever say "advice" because it assumes that the speaker is a tier above the listener in most cultures. An advice is not compelling when the speaker's craft/experience does not back it up, so I frame them as "suggestions."

I like to ask for stories. People's advice is almost always predicated on stories anyway, so by asking for the story you get directly to the relevance and credibility of the advice
