The idea of paying for compute on demand is very alien to most people. A subscription service to pay for gas fees would be more appealing to most people I think.

my guess is it's hard to average this out. better to offer subscriptions for certain activities (e.g. minting nfts, sending payments, etc)

Isn't it all just paying for blockspace? I don't see a reason to separate types of transactions. I'm imagining different tiers for amount of blockspace per month.

I'm saying it will be a hard product to price because there will be such variance in usage. Partitioning by usage type would likely reduce the variance in each category and permit easier pricing

I agree mostly. But why vary based on usage types when you can vary based on usage amount?
