Odd. Seems to me like they are concerned that NFT sales and usage might present a path for some apps (cough Epic Games) to escape the AppStoreās walled gardens.

I think they just realized the digital goods market might be bigger than just entertainment and now they want to capture it all. If anything, itās validation.

2/2: in both, if thereās product market fit and users onboard within the walled gardensā¦eventually users will start getting around the wallā¦reminded of for many years buying on Audible web instead of in-app. Clunky but ok. Canāt stop users if product fit is deepā¦šŖš¼

I am not so optimistic. They are cutting off NFT at the limb here by saying any functionality will be barred. Games, token gating, technically also Reddit and Twitter tho I bet they get a pass. Maybe later will allow it only if the asset was first sold through an Apple-owned contract.
