Odd. Seems to me like they are concerned that NFT sales and usage might present a path for some apps (cough Epic Games) to escape the AppStore’s walled gardens.

I think they just realized the digital goods market might be bigger than just entertainment and now they want to capture it all. If anything, it’s validation.

1/2: Definitely an acknowledgment that they see NFTs happening and don’t want to miss out / trying to maintain audience capture….like Meta announcement, good signal.

I am not so optimistic. They are cutting off NFT at the limb here by saying any functionality will be barred. Games, token gating, technically also Reddit and Twitter tho I bet they get a pass. Maybe later will allow it only if the asset was first sold through an Apple-owned contract.

and yes these are clear signals suggesting that NFT is valid tech, here to stay, and potentially presents a threat to the corporate walled gardens... but I never doubted this! 😄

Right, so I'm not saying it's good news/approach, just good signal :) Reminds me of AOL, Prodigy, CompuServe in like 1994-95(?)...for a few yrs they tried to serve their homepage/their walled garden as internet...but became increasingly untenable, increasingly obvious to users that there was more out there...2/👇
