So my silly socks led me to enjoying a cup of tea with a monk who studied English for a year in Indiana when he was in high school and I didn’t realize how special this moment really was. The tea is very rare. It’s from the oldest tea garden in all of Japan. Zen Master Eisai brought back from the Song Dynasty and when he planted it in the mountains, it was said that he recommended it to the monks because it “had the effect of waking up sleep that interfered with training”. Guess they discovered caffeine ;) I’m still in awe that my silly socks and me explaining the Wendy’s meme to a monk led to this moment.
