Hey Steph, I read this cast and wasn't sure that concept on "file over app" entailed. So I did a search and it lead directly to your article "File over app". 
Half way through, it made sense, but I had more questions; how do we actualise this concept in everyday life and software, does blockchain/decentralisation solve this?

Of course, the reason why I am being sold on Obsidian is Markdown. 
As a dev, i've used Markdown a lot and this just reinforces the conversation.

I think hard before committing to any new app that has a proprietary format, and I try to have a backup plan.

For example, is use a spreadsheet app called Smartsheet that’s fairly different than Excel, but I can always export to Excel. And CSVs are the fallback from Excel. CSVs might be the file-over-app format for spreadsheets, but the features of Smartsheet and Excel are worth any potential conversion hassles in the future.
