I know that everybody likes passive income

But if we start to feel entitled to staking rewards and say things like "ETH is meant to be staked", we've changed the purpose of staking from 'securing the chain' to 'providing passive income' to stakers

imo, this lowers the value of the entire Ethereum ecosystem

Hot take: The longer Ethereum goes without a serious slashing incident, the more staking will continue to grow (especially with restaking).

i'd hope that we can head this possibility off at the pass with research and discussion on issuance changes but that seems to have been made extremely controversial and discussion pretty unproductive by cryptotwitter
