You never know the real reasons behind a success but you can always tell what caused a failure. Much safer to get advise and learnings from failed startups. 

"In the early days of Google/Facebook/Coinbase we did it like this", means very little. I'm 99% sure many others did exactly the same thing and failed miserably.
