Either AI and crypto get joined together at the hip, or both die. Each is existentially critical for the other. 

Both sides are in denial about it, but crypto is a little closer to admitting it needs AI than the other way around.

"AI needs cryptography" is something I 100% agree with, in the same way that the internet wouldn't be nearly as useful without SSL/TLS, asymmetric key crypto etc.

On the other hand, not obvious to me that AI needs cryptocurrencies/blockchain -- is this what you're claiming and if so why?

At a high level I think about it like this, Blockchains are a force for immutability and provablity, while AI is a force too dramatically increase work efficiency , but has big issues with being able to fake and imitate pretty much anything now.
