Sending some USDC on a L2, did not check eth first, now I don't have enough gas for anything and will have to bridge some eth again to just be able to move $10.

You should check if the L2 has paymaster some like zksync do. You would have the same issue on any L1 as well and none to my knowledge sponsor gas or let you use usdc as gas
