TIL that testosterone in men drives courtship behaviors (approaching potential sexual partners / flirting etc.), but not sexual desire. I had always assumed that fluctuations in the latter correlated with testosterone levels https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2024.1508

Interesting that we actually cure lack of sexual desire with testosterone, meaning the cure has no proven effect. What else do we cure based on incorrect assumption like this one?

Melatonin. There’s been a marketing-driven race to macro dosing — you’ll commonly find 10 or 12 mg pills, which is 40 times the likely effective dosage. At best it’s wasteful, at worst it’s counterproductive in inducing the desired effects
