That was a great "great french wines" tasting session. The Château-Neuf-du-Pape was really really good. But all others were too. My next favorite was this Gevrey-Chambertin followed by the Bandol.

what do we mean by great wine? It's not necessarily price or worldwide prestige. Prices can be between 40 and 90 euros without the need to be a La Romanée Conti that is not 2000 times better (you pay for the name mostly). But some criteria have to be met: - rich, diverse and complex aromas - comforting textures - well balanced - nice color - long in the mouth - evolution in the mouth - expert winemakers - old vines - usually small batches of less than 10000 bottles - gives you goosebumps Even 5yo wine can be a great wine when you know how to appreciate it, but I admit the Château-Neuf-du-Pape 2009 was very good.
