I live abroad but need to pay for an electricity bill for a property in France.

EDF (the power utility) offers automated payments, but only if you have a bank account in France — they can’t auto-charge a credit card.

They also send me paper invoices by snail mail which take weeks to reach me overseas… usually after the deadline for payment.

I asked to sign up for e-invoices, but it’s only available to people who are signed up for auto-payment, i.e., the people who need them the least

Those legacy companies are so archaic

I had to pay my electricity bill in Portugal, and to do that I have to go into the national energy company's customer portal to get the payment details cause I need to pay via IBAN
