if your font size is 16 make 24 line height. 

of course it matters what’s the weight and in general how typeface is designed but it works 99%

Said otherwise, a line height set to 150% the font size is a good benchmark for body copy. 

This creates a flexible base for your type system that can adapt to different font sizes and screens.

At Decent, we use this rule + 100% line height for titles/subheadings, 96% for headings/hero copy.

A caveat, if you are using a typeface with a tall x-height, consider reducing your line height to 130-140%. Otherwise your copy will appear too stretched out.
