Started the year exploring the Bergstrom Rail Spur Trail, which finally starts construction this month. The trail stretches 6.5 miles from Vinson Dr to 183 and will connect many south Austin neighborhoods together. This trail will provide a walking/biking path to the airport!! The Eastern Segment, from Vinson Dr to S Congress will be built first.

Let me tell ya, this will be a game changer for East/West travel in south Austin. Even in its current state as an inactive rail line, I flew across town on my bike with no trouble. I will plan to use this as an unofficial route to get across town from now on and follow the progress closely.

It gets a bit dodgy between Congress and 35 because of camps and dogs, and again after Montopolis due to less established paths, but the entire trail is currently accessible.

This trail was designated as high-priority in the 2014 Urban Trails Project and will be massive for connectivity in the city as it links several future regional transportation projects.
