The National Conventions are like music festivals. The debates are promoted like boxing fight nights. 

We've genuinely embraced spectacle in favor of dynamic and meaningful discourse.

Perhaps we're the outliers and there's some merit to the performative qualities politics has taken on in this country. Maybe this is the only way to get people to pay attention. Or perhaps it's a matter of, "if football does it, why not us?"

In any case, I agree with you. It feels overly produced and inorganic. I want to know who I'm voting for, idc about anything else.

And outside the made for TV spectacle, thousands of people protest the war crimes of the people inside the event, repressed by the police and ignored by the mainstream media. They have to fake the excitement for the illusion to work.
