1TB system memory would be dual or quad CPU territory in a traditional build, i.e. a server build with ECC memory. with single CPU Intel or AMD you would hit chipset memory controller limits at 128GB or maybe 256GB. Apple Silicon architecture means CPU/GPU/system memory/neural eng directly on the SoC, which has performance advantages since they all share that unified memory but then thermal limits as a result. harder to shove more and more memory onto the same SoC without hitting thermal issues, esp. for a small form factor like the studio. I would expect the M4 studio to top out at either 128GB or 256GB, but maybe a new Mac Pro could have higher levels of expandability.
