Perplexity sent me this story about Steve Jobs at Pixar today. I have looked up to Steve Jobs so much since I was ~11 years old. But it’s hard to square my positive impression of his grand vision, attention to detail, and sustained contrarian tasteful decision making with the many stories about his selfish, rude, childish, petulant, short tempered, and immature behavior. It also puzzles me how someone can be so brilliant and successful, and such a magnet for generational talent, while also being so rude, belittling, and conflictual. How do you square it? https://www.perplexity.ai/page/the-pixar-whiteboard-incident-d7KhA2lmS7uPoLp9bxwUWg

you don’t have unlimited stat points in the character creator. sometimes beating the game doesn’t require the full skill tree to be completed

I wrote about this in a blog post once - almost all of my 'heroes' are/were assholes... And in truth, sometimes to accomplish great things - you have to be.

Complexity is part of human nature. Steve Jobs' success doesn't excuse his negative behavior, but it adds layers to his legacy.

Often the greatest achievers are the most tormented. Think of Van Gough or Michael Jackson. I hate how he treated others, and the way all these people behaved toward those around them, but it doesn’t invalidate their work. Admire the progress, not the person.
