p.s. i was chatting about something with a teammate today and used this phrase which I enjoyed: "we need to stop chasing other people's tails and start being the motherfucking dog."

what i meant to illustrate with that analogy was that i think it's really easy to get lost and distracted trying to react to other people/products/competitors. i find this mode more often than not leads to bad outcomes - bad products, bad go to markets, incremental progress.

what's much harder is figuring out who *we* want to be, then embodying that to its fullest extent. this can be really scary, because it often means looking out 1-2 years and envisioning a future that doesn't yet exist, then charting the path to get there. and often times that path requires a lot of hard work and lead bullets. but it gives us a shot at doing a 10x.

and throughput my career, i've found that even if you predict wrong, the process of looking out, making a bet, and moving with conviction ends up helping you figure out the right way eventually.

- Merkle team takes in so much input and feedback, has complex problems to solve and things to build, yet impressively prioritizes with great focus
- I constantly was thinking "whoa, people in this room are like *smart* smart"
- it’s 10% humbling, 90% reinvigorating seeing not just the brains but passion behind a lot of these projects; project update casts don’t capture the nuanced excitement of someone speaking
- building anywhere between 10% to 100% on top of Farcaster are both viable strategies today, albeit the latter is higher risk (and higher reward) given the hard pivots APIs have to take for the sake of moving fast
- imposter syndrome fades quickly when people you respect hear your ideas and show genuine excitement and encouragement to see them through
- overall it felt like a bunch of candles of varying flames come together and ignite each other; that is to say it even if it was mostly talking, it was lit
