The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Jimoh Ibrahim, has explained that the debate on the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu was shifted to Thursday to accommodate the opinions of absentee legislators. The senator representing Ondo South made the clarification in an interview with selected journalists on Wednesday. According to him, many of the members are not available for the Senate’s debate on the issue because they are observing the Ramadan fast while others did not turn up. He said, “First thing tomorrow morning, the proclamation will be debated. By then, information will have gone to other members. Some members are fasting; they are praying in their homes. Tomorrow, they will be here, and then by 10 o’clock, we pick it up. We are in tandem with Mr. President.
